The aerosol can was invented by Norwegian engineer Eric Ritheim, in 1926. 7 Despite this, they did not become popular until after World War II when the US military used aerosol cans to dispense insecticides at war. 7

- One fluid is stored at high pressure, this high pressure fluid is then used to propel another fluid out of the can. 7
- The high pressure fluid is also referred to as the propellant as it is the substance that is used to get a necessary fluid out of the canister, which is often times in a form of compressed or liquefied gas. 7
